Solar is a long-term property investment, so comparing installers on price alone can hide important differences. Ask each company to provide a clear, itemised proposal so you can compare the same scope and assumptions.
Check accreditation and licensing
Confirm the relevant designer and installer accreditations and electrical licensing for the work being proposed. For battery installations, check current program requirements and product approvals as well.
Compare the actual equipment
Quotes should list exact panel, inverter, battery and mounting model numbers. Brand names alone are not enough because manufacturers may sell products with different specifications and warranty conditions.
Review system design and estimates
Ask how roof orientation, shading, panel layout, energy usage and local network export limits were considered. Understand the assumptions behind estimated generation, self-consumption and savings.
Read the warranty terms
Separate product and performance warranties from workmanship cover. Check who provides each warranty, what is excluded and how a claim is made if the installer is no longer trading.
Ask about the installation and handover
Understand who manages network applications, what is included in the installation, how the system will be commissioned and which documents you will receive. Ask who to contact for monitoring faults or after-sales support.
Compare like for like
