Sydney's electricity prices and time-of-use tariffs make battery storage one of the highest-impact upgrades you can add to an existing or new solar system. Instead of exporting your daytime solar for a low feed-in tariff and buying it back at peak evening rates, a battery lets you store what you generate and use it after the sun goes down — when Sydney households typically draw the most power. We design and install battery systems for Sydney homes and businesses using CEC-accredited installers, with premium brands including Tesla, Sungrow, BYD and Enphase.
NSW households currently have access to two incentives that can stack:
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program — an upfront, point-of-sale discount applied through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), available on eligible batteries from 5–100 kWh installed by an accredited installer.
The NSW VPP incentive — a separate state payment through the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme for connecting a VPP-capable battery to a participating Virtual Power Plant, on top of the federal discount.
NSW's earlier Empowering Homes loan scheme has been replaced by the Home Energy Saver Program, offering interest-free loans (up to $15,000) for solar, batteries and other eligible upgrades for households under the income threshold, with additional discounts for lower-income households.
Because rebate rates step down periodically and eligibility criteria change, we confirm your exact entitlement and stack the current incentives correctly during your free consultation — this is genuinely easy to get wrong or leave money on the table if it's not handled by an experienced installer.
Why Sydney households are adding batteries :
Time-of-use tariffs — many Sydney retailers charge significantly more during evening peak hours; a battery shifts your usage away from that window.
VPP eligibility — connecting your battery to a Virtual Power Plant can generate an ongoing return beyond the upfront rebate, effectively getting paid for grid support.
Blackout/brownout resilience — with the right inverter setup, a battery can keep essential circuits running during outages, which matters more in storm season.
Strata and apartment considerations — for unit and townhouse installs, we manage the additional approvals strata title properties often require.
A battery that's too small won't cover your evening usage; one that's oversized wastes money on capacity you'll never use. During your on-site visit, we review your actual usage pattern (from a recent bill), your existing or planned solar system size, and your goals — daily bill reduction, blackout backup, or maximum grid independence — and size the system accordingly, rather than selling a fixed package.
